What is VTrckS?
The Vaccine Tracking System (VTrckS), a critical component of the Vaccine Management Business Improvement Project (VMBIP), is an information technology system that will integrate the entire publicly-funded vaccine supply chain from purchasing and ordering to distribution of the vaccine.
VTrckS will allow health care providers to input their vaccine requests (orders) directly online thereby improving efficiency and accountability of public dollars. The system will evaluate vaccine orders against specific guidelines set by grantees (i.e., state, local, and territorial health departments) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
VTrckS is being developed by teams with a variety of expertise and in consultation with key stakeholders including grantees and immunization providers. A Grantee Advisory Committee is helping to ensure that VTrckS will meet the needs of the grantee community and a Provider Advisory Committee is working to ensure that VTrckS will meet the needs of the health care provider community.
Grantee Advisory Committee
In July 2008, a VTrckS Grantee Advisory Committee (GAC) was established. The mission of the GAC is to ensure immunization program needs, as defined in the original requirements, are well representedduring all phases of development until VTrckS goes live. Committee members will perform reviews and provide recommendations to CDC on end-state deliverables, such as detailed business process and/or visual related deliverables. In addition, members will:
- Represent users in identifying current or future procedures; keep the project abreast of the grantees’ IT initiatives and assist with future IIS surveys. The GAC will seek provider input and feedback and report VTrckS progress to grantees.
- Agree on a formal approach for systematically getting input from and representing other grantees that are not on the Committee.
- Make recommendations to establish, change, or delete project specifics or issues and develop recommendations to address issues, risks, and constraints when identified.
