Advancing Access and Taking Action for the Nation’s Oral Health
April 30–May 2, 2007
Denver, Colorado
The eighth joint annual meeting of the Association of State and Territorial
Dental Directors (ASTDD) and the American Association of Public Health Dentistry
(AAPHD) was held April 30–May 2 in Denver, Colorado, in conjunction with the
19th annual meeting on Special Care Dentistry. The meetings overlapped and
presented joint sessions on Wednesday, May 2.
Conference sessions addressed the future of the dental workforce and the
dental public health infrastructure, access to oral health services, effective
programs for preventing oral disease, partnership and coalition development, and
the role of state oral health programs in disaster preparedness and response. On
Wednesday, May 2, former U.S. Surgeon General Richard Carmona was the keynote
speaker for the opening plenary; other sessions on that day focused on providing
oral care and services to people with disabilities and fostering partnerships to
improve oral health in people with disabilities.
The conference was cosponsored by CDC, the Health Resources and Services
Administration, ASTDD, and AAPHD.
