These training materials are available to support those people and organizations that conduct the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

BRFSS User's Guide (PDF-1.7Mb) The User's Guide is a manual covering all aspects of BRFSS survey operations. This fully navigable, fully printable PDF version includes information on many aspects of the BRFSS survey, including the following: • Processes of the BRFSS • Data collection and management • Survey protocol • Quality assurance, funding • Staffing • Data use and promotion • Questionnaire development • Reference material • Survey methodology • Tips and pointers from the states NOTE: You will need Acrobat Reader (a free application) to view and print this document. To navigate through the guide’s chapters and sections, open the document and click the Bookmarks tab at the left side of the browser window. The expandable chapter menu features links to specific sections of the guide.

BRFSS Interviewer Training Module This training resource familiarizes BRFSS telephone interviewers with the software and success strategies for completing quality interviews. NOTE: The quizzes at the end of each section require enabling JavaScript to be interactive. If JavaScript is disabled, the full text of the quizzes will be available without the interactivity. BRFSS Overview This comprehensive overview provides a useful introduction to BRFSS and includes information on the history of BRFSS, survey techniques, data use, and more.  It is intended as an orientation to the surveillance program for both survey personnel and the general public.

BRFSS Data Systems Prevalence Training This training resource teaches the purposes and applications of statistical methods used in interpreting BRFSS data. NOTE: This resource requires the ability to accept browser cookies and requires that JavaScript be enabled. Please see information on Cookies and CDC's Privacy Policy.
