National Firefighter Registry for Cancer: Understanding & Reducing Cancer

The National Firefighter Registry (NFR) for Cancer is the largest effort ever undertaken to understand and reduce the risk of cancer among U.S. firefighters. NIOSH is reaching out to all firefighters to join the NFR, including active and retired firefighters, career and volunteer firefighters, and those with or without cancer. Firefighters are exposed to chemicals on the fireground that could increase their risk of developing cancer. By joining the NFR, firefighters will provide critical information that can help answer questions about how and why the cancer risk varies across our nation’s diverse fire service.
